D-Day
was June 6, 1944. Eisenhower talked to paratroops the night
before, as the men prepared to precede the amphibious invasion.
He built up their morale and told them about the importance
of the battle and how all of civilization practically depended
on it. And they said, “Oh, Ike, don’t worry, we’ll do it,
no problem,” and so on.
As
we got on the ships, we were given handouts.
