A BRIEF HISTORY AND OVERVIEW
In 1967 Chicago-based
Publications International, Ltd. went to press with its first title, Best
Buys & Discount Prices, which was published under the now-famous
and highly regarded CONSUMER GUIDE imprint. The company's mission, as
stated by C.E.O. Louis Weber, wasand isto "pool combined imaginative
resources to create quality information products, both in the written
word and other media, and to provide knowledge and enjoyment to the consumer
at a reasonable price."
In just a few years
Publications International, Ltd. came to be relied upon by thousands of
smart shoppers for the accurate, money-saving buying information found
in CONSUMER GUIDE magazines. Publications International, Ltd. subsequently
expanded into the hardcover book format, permitting editors to explore
a wide variety of subjects in considerable detail. By 1982 the publications
list exceeded 100 titleseach volume featuring a wealth of useful,
important information presented in bright, accessible language. Lavish
use of striking photography and illustration became a Publications International,
Ltd. hallmark.
Publications International,
Ltd. continues to rise in prominence and regard within the industry. The
company now publishes more than 500 titles a year in categories including
children's, cooking, sports, how-to and crafts, entertainment, medical
and health, automotive (new-car and vintage), consumer information, and
a variety of stationery products.
Work created by Publications
International, Ltd. is distributed nationwide and abroad via bookstore
chains, book departments of major retailers, magazine stands, and mail-order
catalogs.
The Holocaust
Chronicle: A History in Words and Pictures is the company's first
not-for-profit endeavor.
