The Baum Gruppe (group) was a Resistance movement based in Berlin. The fallout from the group's arson attack on a government-sponsored anti-Bolshevik art exhibit in May 1942 eventually led to the deaths of almost all the members, including Heinz Birnbaum. It is believed he was hanged.

Werner Steinbrink was apprehended by Nazi authorities following the attack. He was executed on August 18, 1942.

For Edith Fraenkel, arrest meant deportation to the Theresienstadt, Czechoslovakia, camp/ghetto, and later relocation to Auschwitz, where she died in 1944.

July 27, 1943: Germans murder 17 Jews discovered hiding in the rubble of the Warsaw Ghetto.

July 28, 1943: Jan Karski, a Catholic-Polish underground fighter who had visited the Warsaw Ghetto and the Belzec death camp, arrives in the United States to tell American leaders what he has seen. His interview with President Franklin Roosevelt indicates that the President already knows much about the Holocaust.
